Stress has been shown to have a key impact on athletic performanc

Stress measurement can uncover imbalances in training programmes or lifestyle problems which result in. The Test provides actionable data for optimising individual training regimes by providing coaches with an objective measure of physical and psychological stress to which their athletes are exposed. This can help them withstand opportunistic infections (colds, flu etc) that would impair performance.



From Niemans 2002

People who exercise regularly report fewer colds then their non-exercising peers. Moderate exercise boosts the immune system (Niemans 2002). Increased intensity of exercise decreases immune function and hence increases susceptibility to opportunistic infections. The ability to compete is reduced during sickness. The Test allows immune system activity to be monitored.



The CC test used above on a Professional Footballer. The higher the response (coping capacity response measured in relative light units RLU), the better the ability to cope. The Red Line indicates a compromised immune system (physiological/psychological stress). 3 days later the player developed an opportunistic infection. This compromised the players ability to perform.

At a professional level, even a small decrease in performance could make the difference between obtaining and keeping possesion of a ball or loosing it. With a team's performance depending on each individual, the CC test helps the intelligent management of players.

Subsequent, early intervention and management of the player (aimed at maintaing the CC response to an acceptable norm) prevented such a reoccurance. Better for the player, better for the team.

The test has been optimised to give a single reading, so in 10 minutes the athlete know whether or not they are in peak condition.

Graph above shows the CC response of a Professional Footballer. All responses within the ‘green band’ are within the players normal range (this range was customized for individual members of the team). On September 8th, the players immune system was compromised (blue square lies outside the normal range for that player). A compromised immune system makes the player more vulnerable to opportunistic infections. Without intervention, and if training continued this could result in a further compromise of the immune system resulting in an increased probability of opportunistic infections (Coughs colds sore throats)  Recommendation: training be modified to allow recovery.  By September 12th recovery had occurred. The CC takes the guesswork out of keeping the player in optimal condition.
